Background
The following document introduces you to the ICT resources available at the Robert Carre Trust.
Policies
All School policies can be found under the Policies section of the Trust website. Before using the school ICT systems you must read and accept the statements contained within the ICT Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). When you login to the school network you must click to Accept the terms of the AUP. Please also read the ICT Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy, if you intend to bring in your own personal device.

Storage Locations
The following table outlines the common storage locations available:
Letter | Name | Description |
O:\ | Personal OneDrive | Only accessible by you, this is a secure area to store any files personal to you. NB: OneDrive should be the primary storage location for all your files. NB: OneDrive has a capacity of 100GB and should be used instead of Home Drive (H:) and USB Memory sticks/drives. NB: Once a file is saved to your Personal OneDrive (O:) it will enable AutoSave, which creates regular backups automatically. These backups are used to provide a version history which you can easily access through File > Info > Version History if you have made an error. This feature is only enabled once you have saved a file, it is therefore essential that you always save a file (e.g. document, spreadsheet, slide deck, etc.) before you add content to it (i.e. not after a lessons work). ICT Support is not able to restore files that haven’t been saved. Accessible via My Files (Foldr), and Microsoft 365 applications, including Microsoft OneDrive. |
H:\ | Home Drive | Only accessible by you, this drive can be used for storing files temporarily for use with computer applications that require local access (e.g. CAD, Adobe CC, mail merges, etc), it MUST NOT be used as your primary storage location. NB: The Home Drive (H:) space is limited to 500MB NB: Version History is not available with files saved on the Home Drive (H:), these files are only backed up twice a day (07:00 and 12:00) Accessible via My Files (Foldr). |
S:\ | Pupil Shared Drive | Each year group has their own folder. This can be used to temporarily share work, e.g. group work or presentations. NB: The Pupil Shared Drive shouldn’t be used as the primary storage location, students should save the original version to their Microsoft OneDrive. |
Q:\ | Submit Drive | Accessible by staff and students to enable electronic marking of work submitted by students to individual staff folders. Once a student has submitted their work they are unable to edit it further or delete the file. Students are unable to see each other's work. NB: The Submit Drive shouldn’t be used as the primary storage location, students should save the original version to their Microsoft OneDrive. Accessible via My Files (Foldr). |
P:\ | Pupil Work Drive | Accessible by staff for publishing resources for students to access. Students cannot edit files on this drive but are able to make a copy of a file to save into their own Microsoft OneDrive for editing. Accessible via My Files (Foldr), and via Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams as RCT - Files - Pupil |
USB External Devices
Students should ensure they DO NOT use external storage devices (e.g. USB memory sticks) as a storage medium for their school work.
NB: External storage should only be used to transfer data from one location to another (e.g. home to school) where the use of the computer network and/or Internet is not possible.
External storage devices are easily lost, stolen and the contents corrupted. As these devices do not connect to the school’s computer network we are unable to recover any lost data.
